Shopping carts are software that is used in e-commerce, much the same way a shopping cart is used in a supermarket to aid in shopping. Shopping carts are used to help or assist online buyers make online purchases. This software allows ’shoppers’ to place items in it and upon checkout, calculates the total amount owed, including handling charges like postage and packaging, shipping and other associated charges where these are applicable. These software applications have a system of getting a client’s payment information. When using credit cards, shopping carts will work in conjunction with payment gateway to ensure that the online transaction is secure.
