E-commerce solutions providers and research firms are advocating the integration of personalization into online strategies as one way companies can optimize cross-channel marketing and keep pace with the industry’s changing dynamics. The Semiconductor Industry Association cut its 2008 semiconductor sales growth forecast Wednesday, citing ongoing pricing pressure in memory chips, and in DRAM memory chips in particular. DRAM memory chips store information in personal computers and other devices. The group now expects 2008 chip sales growth of 4.3 percent, compared with an earlier forecast for 7.7 percent growth. SIA said that DRAM sales fell 34 percent while unit shipments rose over 30 percent in the first four months of the year, compared with the year-ago period.

Lately I have been working on a keynote speech that I need to deliver in a few weeks, and in the process of doing my research, I came across some very interesting ideas that fit in well with my research focus. In the last half of the 20th century, a number of thinkers became increasingly dissatisfied with the classical model of economics and began looking for an explanation that better represented the facts that they saw daily. One of the biggest issues staring economists in the face was the idea that economic systems don’t always seek equilibrium.

The release of the 3G iPhone has Apple enthusiasts pumped up, but it left AT&T investors feeling deflated over the carrier’s decision to heavily subsidize the new, cheaper device in the hopes of reaping longer-term gains. While Apple shares were up about 2 percent Tuesday, AT&T’s stock was down, losing just under 1 percent to close at $37.22. The drop came a day after AT&T acknowledged that the new generation of iPhone — which will run on a faster network and feature GPS technology — will cut into profit margins and earnings for the rest of this year and for all of 2009.
