Videoconferencing systems have existed since the 1960s and since then, these systems have slowly been integrated into the enterprise. The vision of videoconferencing has always been clear in theory, as depictions from “The Jetsons,” “Star Wars,” “Star Trek,” and other science-fiction titles have shown. As companies realized the value of synchronizing real-time, interactive, immersive nonverbal communicative cues with the verbal conversations already available through the telephone, they sought similar solutions.

There’s a common thread running throughout Google’s latest legal worries: antitrust accusations, most notably several complaints filed with the European Commission. Last week, the EC opened an inquiry into Google’s search ranking algorithm, based on claims of unfair practices made by three companies, two of which have ties to Microsoft. The Microsoft connections are no coincidence, Google maintains. It believes that Microsoft has been working behind the scenes to spur regulatory authorities such as the EC to launch investigations.

As sales organizations endeavor to escape the constricted economy of the 2009 recession, one of their most significant barriers is stagnant progress in terms of bringing their sales cycle under control. Recent Aberdeen research published for “Inside Sales Enablement: Let Them Drink Coffee!” reveals that not only did under-performing companies see a year-over-year increase in their sales cycle of 12 percent, but even the Best-in-Class, or top 20 percent of performers among over 500 companies surveyed, experienced a slight lengthening of their own bid-to-win time frame.

Document-sharing site Scribd.com launched a new feature Wednesday allowing users to easily transfer many of the site’s 10 million books, magazines and documents to mobile devices, including Amazon’s Kindle, the Nook e-reader and the Apple iPhone. The feature works differently for each device. For some devices, such as the Kindle or iPhone, for instance, it’s a simple matter of entering an email address or telephone number to which Scribd should send the content.
