Pegasystems’ Chordiant Buy Not Without Risks

Business process management vendor Pegasystems will be acquiring CRM company Chordiant for $161.5 million, or $5 per share. While the deal will clearly provide synergies to both companies, it is also a function of the general consolidation in the CRM and BPM space, Nucleus Research Vice President Rebecca Wettemann told CRM Buyer. Once the integration is complete, a combined Pegasystems-Chordiant could target enterprises looking for Oracle-like or SAP-like functionality, but at a smaller scale and price point, she said.

FTC May Put Kibosh on Google’s AdMob Deal

Google’s proposed $750 million acquisition of the mobile ad network AdMob may be subjected to a protracted period of regulatory scrutiny. The FTC reportedly is seeking sworn declarations from at least two of Google’s competitors. Google announced its intent to buy AdMob in November 2009, in a stock deal that would make it the company’s third-largest acquisition. Google acknowledged at the time that it might draw some regulatory scrutiny, but it now appears the oversight process could be more in-depth than it originally expected.

The End of Novell’s Makeover Addiction

Tuesday’s surprise $1 billion buyout offer for Novell from the New York-based private investment group Elliott Management came with a letter spelling out the investors’ goal for the company. “Over the past several years, [Novell} has attempted to diversify away from its legacy division with a series of acquisitions and changes in strategic focus that have largely been unsuccessful,” the firm wrote. “As a result, we believe the Company’s stock has meaningfully underperformed all relevant indices and peers.”

Citrix Adds IT Management to ‘GoTo’ Line

Citrix Online, a division of Citrix Systems, announced on Wednesday the acquisition of Paglo, a remote support service provider. The purchase signals Citrix Online’s entrance into the IT management sector. Citrix Online has relaunched the Paglo service as GoToManage. That service is an integrated Web-based platform for monitoring, controlling and supporting attended or unattended IT infrastructure anywhere. The launch of the new service enables Citrix to meet accelerating demand from the SaaS-based IT management market, according to Citrix’s Elizabeth Cholawsky.
